Rules and Respect along the Railroad
Because of problems in the past, we include these obvious items.
Entrance onto the Rail Line We have a [ No Trespassing - Enter at your own risk ] policy, please contact us at the foundation offices for guidelines before entering the rail line.
Respect Please respect the private lands along the rail line. Along the majority of the rail line the property is owned privately and most owners do not desire individuals crossing their property. The Depot at Wagon Wheel Gap is privately owned, please do not bother these fine folks. The rail line property is about 100 feet wide and is posted [ No Trespassing - enter at your own risk ]. The foundation is not responsible for your actions or injuries to you or parties accompanying you .
No Smoking - No Fires along the Railway Fires are a major danger in Colorado, a large portion of the woodlands south of South Fork and east of Durango have burned in the last few years, please do not smoke along the line or build fires. Summer Season County Wide Fire Bans are usually in effect and aggressively enforced. If caught by Foundation Members you will be invited to leave and not return. Law enforcement will ticket you and the minimum fine is $1,000 plus the total cost of fighting the fire, if a wild fire is started. BE FOREWARNED
A note about safety on the line.... We encourage all to lend a hand rebuilding and running this rail line but help must be organized and accomplished under the control of the management of the foundation. Persons showing up and working without notice on the rail line can result in trespass charges and arrest by the local Sheriff. We have organized work days and these are usually listed on this web site. Please contact us first before venturing out on the line. As to privately owned speeders and other rail equipment: Not Allowed.... Check for national clubs that organize these meets and have proper insurance coverage. The local Sheriff will impound any and all unauthorized equipment found on the line and cite all trespassing parties......
